The cardboard manufacturing company AB “Grigeo Klaipėda” welcomed special guests – the team of the TV show Waste Raid”, led by inspector Elena.

During the visit, the guests learned about the factory’s operations, where more than 130,000 tonnes of collected paper are recycled every year. This accounts for over one-third of all paper waste in the Baltic States.

Elena, together with “Grigeo Klaipėda” Sales Manager Gitana Šeršniovienė, visited areas of the factory that are usually closed to the public and discussed the company’s history. G. Šeršniovienė highlighted that operations on the factory grounds have been running since 1889, and some of the buildings are recognized as architectural monuments.

The guests had the opportunity to see the behind-the-scenes of packaging production – from old waste paper to its transformation into new packaging. They observed how collected paper waste moves along sorting lines, is turned into pulp, and then transformed into new paper reels, which are shipped to clients worldwide. The visitors also explored vast storage areas filled with recovered paper, resembling an impressive maze.

In the programme, G. Šeršniovienė emphasized the importance of core circular economy principles in the company’s operations. For us, what many consider waste is a valuable raw material. The goal of waste paper recycling is to keep resources in use for as long as possible and extract their maximum value.
