Grigeo Baltwood has become the second private company in Lithuania to obtain the prestigious Preferred by Nature Sustainability Certificate, which meets the requirements of the European Union Deforestation and Forest Degradation Regulation (EUDR). The company joins Grigeo Tissue, which was the first company in the country and the Grigeo Group to achieve EUDR certification.
The EUDR aims to reduce the impact of the EU market on global deforestation, forest degradation and biodiversity loss. The certificate obtained by Grigeo Baltwood is important because it certifies that the company's production uses sustainably sourced raw materials that are not linked to deforestation and destruction.
"This certificate is an important recognition of our team's work, contributing to the Group's mission of building a circular future. As part of one of the largest paper and wood industry groups in the Baltics, it is our duty and responsibility to be a few steps ahead and set an example for others in the market. Only by following the highest standards of sustainability and transparency can we create the greatest value for our customers, partners, and the society," says General Manager of Grigeo Baltwood, Viktoras Tirevičius.
Systematic changes in the production chain have helped the company achieve EUDR certification. According to V. Tirevičius, this year Grigeo Baltwood has started to buy only FSC-certified raw material. To ensure compliance with the regulation's requirements, important automation projects and process efficiency works are being implemented. The company has also increased the scope of its sustainability risk assessment and audited its suppliers.
Grigeo Baltwood is part of the Grigeo Group, one of the largest paper and wood industry groups in the Baltic States. The Group currently employs more than 1000 people.
